Get to know more about TRG’s Monique Dyer
1. What inspired you to join TRG, and what excites you most about your new role?
I wanted a role that gave me more time at home while still providing plenty of opportunities to learn and grow. Being part of a smaller business really appealed to me because I could take on new challenges, develop my skills and be part of a company that was willing to grow with me.
2. Can you share a bit about your professional background and experience in the industry?
I entered the tyre industry at 21, starting out working on light vehicles. From there, I worked my way up, continuously learning and gaining experience across different areas of the industry. I now work on some of the biggest tyres in the industry, including 63-inch tyres, and I genuinely enjoy both sides of the work equally. I currently work at Roy Hill, and the experience I’ve gained over the years has given me the confidence and skills to work independently when required, while also being a strong part of a team.
3. What motivated you to pursue a career in OTR Tyre Management?
I wanted to continue growing and expanding my knowledge within the tyre industry, and moving into OTR felt like the natural next step for me. I pursued a role as a grab truck tyre fitter, which gave me the opportunity to learn how to operate a grab truck as well as change tyres using one, alongside gaining mobile tyre fitting experience. Grab truck operation is quite a specialised skill, and there are fitters who have spent their whole careers in the industry without having the opportunity to learn it, so it’s definitely a skill I’m proud to have gained.
4. What do you hope to achieve or accomplish during your time with TRG?
One day, I’d really like the opportunity to train or work alongside another female tyre fitter, and help show that women are just as capable of succeeding in this industry. Earlier in my career, I had to work hard to prove that I was capable of doing the same job as the men around me, and that experience has motivated me to hopefully make the pathway a little easier for other women coming into the industry.
5. Can you describe a project or achievement from your previous experience that you’re particularly proud of?
I’m proud of the tyre fitter I’ve become throughout my career. I don’t believe in taking shortcuts and always aim to complete every job safely, efficiently and to a high standard. I’m also confident in speaking up when something doesn’t feel right, particularly when it comes to safety, and I take pride in doing the job properly every time.
5. What attracted you to TRG as an employer, and what sets it apart from other companies in the industry?
Being a smaller business, TRG has so much potential to grow and make its mark within the industry. What attracted me most was the opportunity to be part of that growth and contribute to a company that has the capability to compete alongside some of the larger, well-established tyre companies.
7. What’s your favourite piece of equipment or gear to work with?
I really enjoy working on 793s and equivalent-sized equipment. I’ve gained a lot of experience working on them over the years, so I feel confident and comfortable with the work, which makes them one of my favourite pieces of equipment to work on.
8. What do you hope to learn or develop professionally while working at TRG?
I’d like to continue developing my leadership skills so I can better support and guide the people I work alongside. I also want to work with my colleagues to continually improve our standards, both within TRG and across the tyre industry.
9. Who’s the most interesting or inspiring person you’ve met at TRG?
My Site Supervisor, Brendan Williams. He’s a great leader who genuinely listens to ideas and suggestions and has always supported me in my career and the decisions I make. He’s also been really supportive of the ideas I’ve put forward for the tyre bay, particularly around reducing physical workload and finding safer and more efficient ways of working.
10. What’s one skill or trick you’ve learned at TRG that you’re proud of?
Since joining TRG, I’ve developed a much broader understanding of tyres and their componentry, which has really strengthened my technical knowledge. I’ve also learnt a lot from working within a larger crew, particularly how to communicate and work effectively with different personalities and working styles.
11. What’s the most challenging or rewarding job you’ve worked on with TRG?
I’ve only recently joined TRG, so it’s still a little early to choose one particular job. I’m looking forward to taking on new challenges, building my experience and seeing what opportunities come my way as I continue to grow with the company.
12. Is there anything else you’d like to share with the TRG community or LinkedIn audience about yourself or your aspirations?
I’m a big advocate for women, particularly those working in traditionally male-dominated industries. I always try to support and encourage the women around me, and I hope that by sharing my own experiences and continuing to grow within the industry, I can help encourage more women to consider a career in tyres.
