1. What inspired you to join TRG, and what excites you most about your new role?
What attracted me to TRG was its family-oriented culture and the close-knit environment that comes with working for a smaller business. The communication between head office and employees, as well as between team members, is clear, open, and supportive, which makes a real difference.
What excites me most about my role is the independence it provides. I enjoy being trusted to get on with the job, working autonomously, and taking ownership of my work while still having the support of a great team behind me.
2. Can you share a bit about your professional background and experience in the industry?
I started my career in the tyre industry at 19 years old with a road train mining and trucking company. From there, I moved into tyre retail, where I gained experience across a wide range of applications, including agricultural, earthmoving, and general tyre fitting. Over the years, I have developed a broad skill set and can work on tyres ranging from 8-inch passenger and light vehicle tyres through to 63-inch mining tyres. This diverse experience has given me a strong understanding of the industry and the ability to adapt to a variety of environments and equipment.
3. What motivated you to pursue a career in OTR Tyre Management?
Tyres have always been something I’ve naturally been good at and enjoyed working with. Throughout my career, I’ve explored different roles and industries, but I always found myself returning to the tyre industry. The variety of work, the challenges it presents, and the opportunity to continually develop my skills are what have kept me passionate about OTR tyre management over the years.
4. How do you usually spend your day-to-day at work?
My day usually starts with the pre-start meeting before reviewing upcoming work with the planners, including scheduled tyre inspections, change-outs, and any maintenance required within the tyre bay. If a breakdown occurs, that becomes the priority to minimise downtime and get equipment back into operation safely. The role is very diverse, and no two days are the same, which is one of the things I enjoy most about it.
5. What do you hope to achieve or accomplish during your time with TRG?
I would like to continue progressing my career by stepping into leadership positions, whether that be as a Leading Hand, Site Supervisor, or eventually a role within head office. One of the things I enjoy most about the tyre industry is the range of opportunities available. With the right attitude and experience, there are countless pathways for growth, and I’m excited to see where my career with TRG can take me.
6. What attracted you to TRG as an employer, and what sets it apart from other companies in the industry?
What attracted me to TRG was its strong focus on work-life balance, fair remuneration, and positive team culture. The company genuinely values its people and understands the importance of family time. What sets TRG apart is the support from both management and colleagues. Everyone looks out for one another, creating a workplace where you feel valued, respected, and supported.
7. What’s your favourite piece of equipment or gear to work with?
My favourite piece of equipment to work with is the 854K Wheel Dozer. It’s a powerful machine that requires a high level of skill, awareness, and attention to safety when carrying out tyre work. Due to the amount of force involved, it’s important to carefully manage the job and ensure all safety procedures are followed. I enjoy the challenge that comes with working on this type of equipment and the precision required to complete the task safely and efficiently.
8. Do you have a work “superpower” – something you’re really good at on site?
I would say my work superpower is my work ethic. I take pride in having a positive attitude, staying focused on the task at hand, and getting the job done safely and efficiently. I’m not someone who complains when challenges arise. Instead, I focus on finding solutions, supporting the team, and ensuring the work is completed to a high standard.
9. What’s the most challenging or rewarding job you’ve worked on with TRG?
Kathleen Valley has been the most challenging and rewarding project I’ve worked on with TRG. As part of a single-person crew, I was responsible for all aspects of the tyre management operation, including planning work, managing stock levels, ordering parts and consumables, and carrying out tyre maintenance. At the same time, I was helping establish a new site with limited resources. It was a challenging role that required a high level of organisation and self-motivation, but it was incredibly rewarding to see the operation grow and succeed.
