Meet The TRG Team: Jason Melling

Jason Melling - TRG Meet The Team

Learn what drives the TRG team in this month’s Meet the TRG Team with Jason Melling.

After seeing TRG’s growing presence on LinkedIn and hearing great things from his peers, Jason joined the team four months ago, bringing with him decades of tyre industry experience. Starting in his dad’s tyre shop at just 11 years old, Jason’s journey has taken him from managing commercial tyre stores in rural WA and the NT to becoming a dedicated specialist in OTR tyre management.

With a passion for training and hands-on learning, Jason is now focused on developing others and helping maintain high safety standards across the board. In this interview, Jason shares what drew him to TRG, the career milestones he’s proud of, and how he plans to grow and give back to the team through training and collaboration.

1. What inspired you to join TRG, and what excites you most about your new role?

For a while, I had been seeing TRG on LinkedIn and I was intrigued and wanted to give it a try as it was a new company, and I had heard great things about TRG from my peers.

2. Can you share a bit about your professional background and experience in the industry?

I started working in tyres when I was 11 years old, in my dad’s tyre store, and then I went full-time straight after high school and worked with my dad. I was mainly doing car/truck tyres.

By the age of 23, I had worked my way as one of the youngest commercial managers in the country for a large tyre franchise. Then I went to the country and managed a couple of tyre stores, and along with setting up new tyre stores in rural Western Australia and the Northern Territory.

When I was around 30 years old, I transitioned into the OTR sector and have been there enjoying it ever since.

3. What motivated you to pursue a career in OTR Tyre Management?

I was motivated to pursue a career in OTR tyre management because I wanted a new challenge and to try something new. I found it’s more rewarding than truck tyres.

4. What do you hope to achieve or accomplish during your time with TRG?

With my time at TRG, I’d like to go back into the training department because I genuinely enjoy teaching people who have limited experience and teaching them the correct procedures of a job.

In my time with tyres, I have found that you learn better on the job, hands-on.

5. Can you describe a project or achievement from your previous experience that you’re particularly proud of?

An achievement that I am proud of is that I was a part of the safety steering committee during my time with another tyre company. My role was to implement and update procedures and safe work practices, along with identifying safer ways to complete the job.

I helped make the procedures that are still in place to this day.

6. How do you plan to collaborate with your new colleagues and team members at TRG?

I collaborate with my team members by making sure I have good communication skills and teamwork skills with my team by making sure were checking in on each other and listening to one another.

The main goal of the job is to go home safely every day.

8. What do you hope to learn or develop professionally while working at TRG?

I’d like to upskill my training qualifications to be able to successfully pass out trainees and provide proper training to my team.
